Logo Design

Artist Statement: This is the logo for the company, Veltio. "Veltió̱" in Greek means "improve", which is what I believe is crucial. Even if you may have the most perfect work there is, there is always room for improvement. Not only that, but the logo is in a shape of a bird. Birds symbolize higher knowledge and wisdom, which I hope accurately represents Veltio's values as a chemical engineering company. As a company that strives to be better and retain the best knowledge possible, I hope that the logo here was able to display that message to its audience well. I believe that this logo is simple, versatile, and appropriate.

Movie Poster Final Project

Step #3:

Step #4:

Artist Statement:
I chose this movie poster by deciding on what my favorite movie was. Of course, it had to be Spirited Away because I have liked the productions by Studio Ghibli for a very long time. It also happened to be my first Studio Ghibli movie, which I watched at a very young age.
Regarding the design, I tried using Attention and Interest/Incentive. The color scheme consisted of mainly cool colors, with a few traces of warm colors here and there. I tried using Attention by adding more lighting from the moon, and making it darker in the shadows of the clouds. With Interest/Incentive, I tried implementing a more magical theme to represent the movie. I did so by using this particular scene and by adding more stars in the background for a more ethereal effect. I also used a serif typeface for the title because I felt that a sans-serif typeface would be too modern for a movie set in a traditional Japanese setting. However, I did use a sans-serif for the movie credits at the bottom because movie credits are typically sans-serif.
I think my favorite part of the design was the focus on the characters and the scene. I really love the main characters, Chihiro and Haku, and seeing them here on a movie poster like that makes me very happy. I also like the pinks and cyans mixed in the clouds.
My least favorite part would probably be the typeface of the title. I wanted something serif, of course, but I just could not find a typeface that would fit my liking. In the end, I chose this typeface but I still wish I could have used something else.
To do it differently, I would spend a little more time looking for a proper typeface, and maybe even get peers' comments on it as well.
